The Four-Step Process

Consultation

Whether you call me or email me to start, eventually we will probably need to talk on the phone and discuss such things as:

  • a general idea of what you want to be built

  • the approximate size the item needs to be and other size requirements (does the piece need to accommodate an item you already have, like a TV or a saddle?)

  • is there a furniture style: colonial, shaker, arts and crafts, contemporary, etc.

  • your preferred wood type

  • the type of finish that will work best for your piece

Consultations are free. However, during the consultation, we will discuss how I charge for the design, build, and delivery of your piece.

Design

During this phase of the project, I will design the piece based on what we discussed in the consultation step. It could be that what you want is very much like something I already have a design for. Or it could be that we are staring from scratch. I will design the piece in Sketchup, so you will have a good idea what it will look like. This would not apply if you want me to create a work of art. I will always ask for your sign-off on any piece before I begin. At this point, I will need a downpayment.

Build

I will give you an estimate on how long it will take me to build and finish your piece. I use both power and hand tools. The power tools are used primarily for the rough work and the hand tools are used for the skilled work.

.

Delivery

I can pack and ship your piece to you. If you are in driving distance, I can deliver it to you. Or, if you prefer, you can come to the shop and pick it up.
